Second half of 4th grade.

My 7th graders could do it, but I get up early to make a family breakfast so end up waking them anyway.

Our lives are busy and we aren’t always able to be together for dinners on weeknights, so we do breakfast instead.

Never. When I was growing up HS started early (7:15) and no one in my family got up with me, spoke to me, or helped me in any way. Many mornings in winter it was pitch black. It was so sad and depressing and I would never do that to my kids.

You truly have a unicorn child!! Our 9 yo wakes himself up but would still be dawdling or playing video game if we let them be. We are not morning people and it's a mad scramble to get out the door to catch the bus.

7th grade (this year). Sets alarms, makes food, packs lunches, and leaves.

I still wake up my sophomore with ADHD. He wakes up at 5:30 and in the shower by 5:40 to get the bus by 6:45. He takes his medication about 6am - but it hasn't kicked in - and he needs constant urging.

I still need to wake up my junior

6th grade for all kids.

My 9yo has started setting an alarm and gets herself up, breakfast and completely ready before dh or I walk her and her siblings to school. 12yo has been getting herself up for years. She has been walking to school on her own some mornings since last year. 7yo wakes up and gets himself dressed, can make himself most things for breakfast as well, but asks for help with things like eggs or cutting bagels. I don’t see why kids need to be teens in order to take responsibility for getting ready in the morning. 9yo is the least “morning person” of the 3 and the alarm has been really helpful for her. It turns out that when she gets up with it she’s much more awake and more pleasant than when she has to be woken up by us.

Depends on what type of child you have.

My 13yr. old is a morning person so he does everything on his own. However, my 16yr. is a mess (and has always been), snoozes the clock at least 3 times, doesn't eat breakfast and is always running late.

My kids are in 7th, 4th, and 1st. I wake up with all of them - but I don’t do too much at all in terms of the 7th and 4th grader in the morning. They eat breakfast and get dressed on their own.

Since 6th grade when their bus came (9am school start) after we left for work. They’re in 8th and 12th now.

This year - 8th grade (age 13/14). Makes her lunch the night before, sets an alarm for 6:05, makes breakfast, chills out by herself, and is out the door at 6:55 to catch the bus to school.

DH and I stay up late (work/hanging out together) and sleep in a bit more - we tend to get up after she leaves, at 7:15 to wake our younger DC (whose school starts later).

We've asked our older DC if she minds and she said absolutely not. She seems to really likes the quiet time by herself - no chit chat or other stuff before she's ready to start her day.

At what age did your child get up for school on their own, make their own breakfast and get to school on their own?
