4-6. Easy to get a table at a restaurant, easy to get transporation, etc.

I'm doing one this summer with 12 for a friend's birthday. I know how this will go -- people will split up into smaller groups during the day based on interests, then we'll all go to dinner together in the evenings at a restaurant we reserved well in advance due to our group size. One evenign we chartered a boat for a sunset cruise, which works well with a group that size.

If you want to all do the same things, 3 is best. If you want enough to split up, then I like 6-8. The problem with that is that it can get clique-y within the group. So my personal preference is 3.

Six. At 13 I went to travel camp and we were instructed to stay in groups of no less than three. The idea was that if one person gets hurt, person Two stays with One, and Three goes for help.

So a group of six can split into threes (three stay at the pool while three go to a museum, three go to one restaurant while three go to another restaurant, etc.), OR stay all together.

*There is no sharing of hotel rooms. We're not actually 13.

Best if it isn't the best friends of one person. Better, for example, for 3 people to each invite one person, or each invite 2 people, or each invite 3 people.
