IMHO, you really want test scores -- even if you don't use them -- to adjust where your child should be going. The fact that he could be admitted to a university where his test scores would put him in the bottom quartile of the class doesn't mean that it would be advantageous to send him there, especially if he's planning on majoring in something "hard". Similarly, if he knocks it out of the park, you may not want him to go someplace with much lower scores. (While it's better to be in the top 10% at a meh college than the bottom 20% at a selective institution, that one kid on SCHEV last year with a 1600 SAT attending UVA Wise should've gone somewhere else.)

Lots of options. What part(s) of the country? What major(s)?

uhhhh no.

Could have a shot as a URM in a less competitive major. Growing URM % is a big priority there.

Norfolk State, Virginia State, Old Dominion, CNU, JMU, Virginia Union and Radford. Good Luck, there's a school for your DC.

OP here. Public high school. He prefers a medium to large school. URM so would prefer some diversity.

Tons of private colleges if you can afford them. University of Lynchburg, Randolph Macon, Roanoke College, Hollins or Sweet Briar (for women), Hampden Sydney (for men), etc.

I'd have thought this too but the latest SCHEV stats show UVA-Wise has a 25th-75th %ile GPA range of 3.5-4.21

For VA public schools, you'd want to look at Longwood, ODU, Radford.

Where do kids get accepted who have around a 3.3 or 3.4 GPA? No advanced classes and no test scores. A couple extracurriculars but no leadership positions, just a member. We are in Virginia if that matters and can pay full ride.
