They had white evening primrose, a really tall aster I was interested in and clarkia amoena. Those last two are still in stock, but again we’ll keep having temps below freezing at night for a long time, plus I can’t put stuff out into the garden till April (if they’re cold hardy) or more realistically May. Keeping plants alive in those tiny nursery containers is difficult for a homeowner. Especially since I’ll still be juggling my started seeds at that point; it’s not like I have endless space and trays to water and care for plants.

I’ll try those other two places, thanks. Even if they don’t have what I want, I bet I’ll find lots to love.

I have been ordering salvias and cupheas from Flowers by the Sea in California and tropical plants from Almost Eden Nursery in Louisiana.

It used to be, under the previous owner (the woman who started the business), that you could purchase plants whenever they became available and then have them shipped when it was appropriate for your zone. Now half the plants I wanted to purchase are no longer in stock and I can’t order the ones that I want because I can’t guarantee that the plants won’t sit in a frigid warehouse or truck overnight/over a weekend. They have a lot of plants that aren’t available anywhere else (or that aren’t available as plants).

I don’t want to reach out to them because it’s not like they’re going to change the policy, which clearly had to have been a decision they made consciously, but I’m bummed.
