Our next car was always going to be electric, OP.

However, because of the current inflation, we are waiting to buy. We have 16 and 11 year old cars and they are still serviceable for now.

As soon as it looked like gas prices were on the rise, we went to a Toyota dealer and are going to trade in our 2020 Subaru Forester for an AWD 2022 Prius. It's a few weeks out from delivery, but we feel good about our decision and it's only an $800 difference after trade-in. We do feel lucky to be getting the new Prius, it had only been available for 2 days.

Nope, waiting to buy a new car and will decide based on price. We don't drive much so the gas savings vs. extra car cost is a balance.

No. Gas prices will come down.

I'm super cheap and have been hoping to replace my old Prius with a used plug-in hybrid. Unfortunately, prices never quite got down to my budget. I'm the classic 3rd/4th owner of cars when they are well beyond the 100k mile mark. Cmax, Volt, Clarity or Prius Prime have been on my watch list.

With this latest gas price shock, I've simply quit looking.

They are pretty mainstream at this point - they are about 5% of US sales and rising rapidly though there are some supply constraints.

And Nissan and Tesla have been selling EV's for 10 years now - Nissan has never had any issues with their batteries.

Nissan has a recall on the leaf for battery issues and is suing a battery supplier for other issues.

I bet you only ran the cost of fueling the car.

EVs have much lower maintenance costs.

We have been on several waitlists for EV's since December so were planning to do this well before this latest spike in prices beacuse well we think it is worth doing something so our kids have an inhabitable planet to live on.

Eventually, but new car prices are stupid. Not gonna buy until all of this crap blows over. It make take another 5 years or so. Consumers have absolutely zero leverage while buying these days. It is the worst time ever to buy new cars.
