My 11 year old DD loved it!

Caucasian family with two kids both enjoyed it ages seven and nine. I liked it a lot better than encanto.

It was boring and weird. And as a woman, I found it a bit stereotypical.

As a boy mom, I can report that boys have normal outbursts as well. But this film focuses on girls.

And, as one of four girls, I have to say the tiger mom stereotype didn’t resonate at all. My sisters and I adored our mother. She provided unconditional love, not controlling at all.

Little kids wanted to watch it, but they got bored after 20 minutes. Curious what age group actually enjoyed it? Also curious if the film resonates with certain ethnic groups?

My 7 year old son loves it.

Turning Red (2) Luca (3) and Encanto (4)

So did one of the friends have down syndrome or not because we thought so as well. Something about her just seemed different.

Yes. And puberty in general and it’s effects on the mother/daughter relationship. I found it really poignant as I have a 13 year old girl, but my 11 year old son didn’t like it at all. It was refreshing to see a movie centered on girls that was honest about vulnerability and the harmful expectations of perfection that a lot of girls start to absorb on the teen years.

The reviews on Commonsense Media were not all that positive. I’m going to hold off on it for my 9yo for now.

But my girls liked it, so I’m going with that

So much better than encanto I thought and my kids are convinced Abby has down syndrome. Which is awesome for inclusivity if it's true.

M kids both liked it (girl 10, boy 7). I liked parts of it but thought the music was boring. It did lead to a good chat with my 10 year old about parental expectations.

Anyone watch yet? This one got me to cry (whereas Encanto did nothing for me), but maybe it’s just because I have a 13 year old girl. The metaphor of the big hairy, smelly, awkward, emotional beast was spot on.
