I'm not following, OP? Did I miss something on the news? What are you prepping for?

I’m not, but if you are and you want to plan for it you need a goodly stick of food that needs no heating or cooking and water (a month). If that happens you’ll be in your basement with no electricity and no way to make a fire, because you won’t be able to vent it to the outside (all cracks etc need to be sealed with plastic to prevent radiation getting in).

That’s a whole other level of planning and worry! Unwarranted, I think.

I *think* think OP was worried about inflation? (If so, I’m not sure she understands inflation). The other preppers seem worried about something else. Though I’m not sure what.

I bought a small battery-powered radio & batteries. I have some foods that don’t need to be heated.

Fill up gas when tank gets half full.

What are you prepping for? Sounds like you think a hurricane may hit DC.

Just good things to have on hand for variety of scenarios.

Also cash.

So you never let your car go lower than a half a tank? Like ever in your life? This is really impressive. My car is screaming at me every couple weeks for being so low.

I’ve also lived in DC almost 20 years and never lost power, so maybe I just don’t get the preppers. Even during snowmageddon (2009 maybe?), we never lost power and you could still find groceries.

Am I...missing something?

What has you panicking and stocking up on food, OP? My family of three and a dog is not stocking up - normal supplies in the house. We’d run out of food we like to eat in a week and could survive on the cans in the back of the shelf for another couple weeks, I’m sure.

The grocery store is open and there is food on the shelves. I don’t think that is changing in the coming weeks.

I would add a few gallons of water, Peanut butter and granola meal bars, and dried fruit (I’d probably do apricots). I would get at least one good flashlight, with extra batteries and bulbs. If you don’t do this already, start setting aside some cash in small bills. In a blackout or other disturbance, ATMs and even credit cards might not be usable. Baby wipes or wet wipes are good if there’s a water shut off. You might want to get a portable charger for your phone.

If you’re buying egg whites, salmon and almond milk, you’re not really on a budget for food. Don’t over buy, because what if you have a power outage? You’ve lost all that food. Buy seasonally, and menu plan from what’s on sale.

Corn and wheat will go ip since Ukraine is a larger producer of both. Everything else will go up proportionally to given rising costs of fuel.

OP - What are you panicking over? Inflation? Future covid variants? Nuclear war?

Inflation is slow. Food and home staples are not going to skyrocket overnight.

Do you shop at ALDI or LIDL? We find we save big at either.

In 2020 I had no toilet paper and no food, I was not prepared at all. This time my freezer is full of chicken, salmon, milk, and egg whites. My pantry is stocked, I also added things like barley, oils, corn, etc. Am I missing anything? I’m on a really fixed budget and can’t afford an increase in food. I bought only things I will use and not in crazy amounts. I have 8 cans of each garbanzo, black beans, tomatoes etc. Bought almond milk and paper products (1x each large tp and paper towels- I live alone) and basically have 2 backups of everything I use regularly (except more cans). What should I be buying? I feel like this is enough but I don’t want to get stuck like last time if prices go even higher. Any other food I’m forgetting that will skyrocket? Thank you in advance. I used my stimulus check to stock my pantry. I’m so grateful for that help, otherwise I wouldn’t have had money to plan ahead of price increases.
