All of the kids I know with ADHD have 504 plans rather than IEPs.

Be prepared to advocate for the accomodations if they are not being implemented. My child is assertive enough to request to be pulled out or given extra time but most kids aren't.
Extra time for ALL assignments is really helpful for ADHD kids, especially in Middle and High School when the homework gets a bit heavier.

Also be aware that depending on the circumstances, they may only receive a 504. Are they looking for services or accommodations? Some students with ADHD only need accommodations.

If the child is in K-12, the parents should write a letter to the school principal, teacher, and special education coordinator requesting evaluation. An easier path would be to have their pediatrician evaluate and diagnose, and include that diagnosis as part of the letter. (ADHD is a medical condition).

If they are under 5, the parents need to call the Child Find office. The same applies to having a pediatrician do the diagnosis first.

Can anyone advise on the first steps to have a child evaluated for ADHD and provided an IEP in PG County? Is the school required to assess students? I am trying to help a friend.
