Yes, I agree that this is not like a public school. The process seems unclear to me. I did talk to the teacher and she flat out told me what she did to my child…which was absolutely unacceptable, inappropriate and mind boggling. My first thought is that the school will defend her so that is why I was looking to find external resources to file a complaint.

There is no external place to file complaint. You need to consider talking to a lawyer to consider whether any possible civil liability and then go to HOS.

If it's bad enough, social media posts naming names are effectively a complaint.

I would email teacher and get their version. After that I would email the vice principal if I still felt the teacher was wrong. I had a teacher take away my 4th graders recess as a whole class punishment. It’s the only mask break they get all day and I was pissed. It was addressed and won’t happen again.

You will be surprised - admin is usually more responsive than you would think, at least at our private. Go to the Principal. If you don't get want you need, take it to the Head.

Agree. I would email the principal and explain the situation, and ask for a meeting. Do not frame this as "Teacher X did this to my kid" but rather, "Larlo did ABC, and Ms. Teacher did XYZ, which was confirmed when we spoke. I'd like to meet to disucss the school's policy on XYZ, and gain a better understanding for how you view ABC, to help Larlo succeed at St. Meany's academy."

You should make contact with the teacher first IMO. If that doesn't resolve things, I'd ask to speak to the Principal, or if you don't trust them, then go directly to Head of School.

If your school has a handbook, that's probably a good place to start to see if there's a complaint resolution procedure in place.

This is going to depend on what type of complaint you're filing.

Anything short of criminal or civilly actionable, your only recourse is to file a complaint with the school, as cited above - department head, division head, head of school, then board.

If it's something that rises to the level of criminal action, you can go to the police, though I'd also give the school a heads up if you want to try to maintain a good relationship.

If it's something that's civilly actionable, find a lawyer.

There really isn't any oversight agency to which you can complain in the private school world.

If it's a teacher, you need to start with school admin. Unless it's criminal, then go to the police.

Independent or faith-based school?

Have you started through proper channels, like the department head, division head and HoS?

More specifically, a complaint against a teacher? Has anyone had any luck with this and can offer resources?
