Is this new? Last weekend I was there, and the cashier was really trying to take over bagging. It stressed me out. I just want to get out of there quick, not stand around awkwardly.

I bag because I don't want to wait, and I also have my own way of bagging to make it easier to unload. A few times, the cashier said "thanks for bagging".

They always bag as they ring up. I'd be in their way if I tried to bag. Maybe that's just how it works at my location (Capitol Hill).

I always bag my own groceries there. If I'm not finished bagging by the time they finish ringing up, then I step away to pay while they bag up the last few items.

You again, from Off Topic?
As a cashier it's their job to ring you up and bag your groceries.

But if you want to bag yourself then do it.

If it’s a store where I have to bag my own groceries, I won’t go there. I have helped bag groceries when cashiers are extremely busy or baggers are tied up. I wouldn’t go to a store where I’m expected to. No.

I let them bag. But sometimes they scan and then pile up a giant thing of items and if I have two bags I just begin bagging one of them. Typically I finish one bag, then have to stop to pay, and the cashier bags the second bag. They do thank me for helping bag whenever I do, certainly never had anyone look at me weirdly. Maybe you’re a slow/bad bagger? In that case, just let them.

I’ve never bagged my own groceries there. Another team member almost always comes over to help bag while the cashier finishes cashing me out. They know what they’re doing and don’t need me mucking up the process.

I always bag except at Trader Joe's because of the layout of the registers. They bag horribly so once the transaction is complete I move to an out-of-the-way spot and reorganize so things don't get broken/squished on the way home.

I don’t bag mine. They are better at it and I feel like it get in their way

What you should not do is waste brain space fretting about this. Bag or don't. Does not matter.

Ha I'm glad I'm not the only one who wonders this. I really hate just standing there while they're so busy but I have also gotten weird vibes when I have started bagging.

I’m confused about whether I should be bagging my pwn groceries at Trader Joe’s. I typically bring my own bags but sometimes need an extra. Sometimes I get the sense doing your own bagging is expected, but the last couple times the cashier seemed almost annoyed when I started bagging, like I was messing up their process. But at that point I felt too awkward to ask. Do I need to ask whether they want help? Or just stop bagging my own unless it’s really busy with a line? This is the only grocery store where I’m not sure what is the best bagging etiquette.
