We just joined the Y and I am pretty happy with what my 7 year old is learning in her class there. They have a set of levels and she is learning proper stroke technique, perfect for swim team.

OP definitely find a program that is at least two days a week. One day a week will not allow for progression.

Both Arlington county and Arlington public schools offer swim instruction but the classes fill up quickly, especially at the new swim facility. Arlington public schools offers twice weekly lesson classes so that may work well for your DC to train. Instructors are inconsistent but lessons are cheap for practice time.

Supplement with a few private swim lessons for right form.

They do but I dropped the ball and they don't have the lane space. So now trying to find something on the outside.

Not OP, but my summer league runs a winter swim program that amps up in the Spring to get the kids ready for the team. Goldfish is fine for getting kids to a rudimentary level of swimming and floating but does not go beyond that and oftentimes does not focus on the foundations for competitive swimming (streamline, rotational breathing, hand/finger placement, etc). So we oftentimes take our Goldfish kids and put them back into our lesson program during the summer because they are not ready.

Fairfax County rec has a program that is good enough for that age.

Does the summer team offer a pre team program? I would do that if so.

So Goldfish is NOT it. Looking for a program my 7 year old could start now to be prepared for a summer league.
