For all we know this kid just assaulted another student. If that were the case I really wouldn't feel bad for what happened to him.

um...no? Because a teacher slapped him we are assuming the kid is in the wrong? I am saying, my personal opinion, is that there is NEVER a time I will support an adult in a position of authority physically assaulting a child. I can see the child saying something back to the teacher, and the teacher responded by losing control. Again, not an acceptable response. I also see the other teacher coming out of a classroom to intercede, and it appears she asks him to walk away, and he also verbally responds to her negatively.
Also, none of what I wrote above makes any difference. An adult assaulted a child causing physical harm. I don't need to know any backstory.

It sounds like this guy was a much beloved teacher who was going to retire at the end of this school year and now he’s jeopardized his retirement because he couldn’t control himself. I’m sure the kid had misbehaved, but whatever the kid did, chasing him down and physically assaulting him is not okay.

I have empathy for the teacher, empathy for the teen, but likely very little for the teen's parents/guardians.
