When I took the DC test back in 2008, there was no parking at all. It was just drive out of the lot, drive around the neighborhood, and back into the lot.


+1 from 2015 — I actually asked about it because a DC resident is due to need that skill and they said it was because they didn’t have a spot to test it at the time. It’s probably good it’s back on the test but sorry your kid has to deal with it, OP.

Parallel parking was just added back to the rest recently.

OP where is he taking it? Just had my DD take it with a third party at the Deanwood DMV. The guy had some cones in his trunk put them out in the lot. He told her if she touched a cone she would fail but she said they were pretty far apart and it was easy.

Interesting! it highly unlikely to avoid parallel parking in the city.

Touching the curb is part of parallel parking. Not ramming it but that’s why curbs are there.

I am so frustrated. My son failed the road test for the 3rd time because of the parallel parking test. He parallel parks in our neighorhood in Mt. Pleasant every single day with no problem. But last time he tapped the curb and this time he was too far out from the curb. My hunch is that they give way more room in the road test than real life parking and it just doesn't feel the same. But this test just feels beyond punitive. In any event, does anybody know of an instructor who can spend an hour or two with my kid to learn how to pass this? And I don't want any of the ones on the grift from the DMV. Thanks!
