I think most waistlist spots are a no. I think Sidwell puts fewer on waitlist maybe so they seem more real?

This. Some kids will get off the waitlist, but most won't. I would not count on it.

We got into BVR; Sidwell; NPS and will only pick one (BVR) so that opens up some spots at both schools and we are receiving a good FA packet so hopefully freeing up some money as well

You still have a chance - do check in regularly, spots may or may not open up. Good luck to you!

^i heard the opposite this year. It is still competitive due to covid and all these schools admins are worn out and waitlisting

I know the waitlist is used to offer acceptances if available at both NPS and Beauvoir. My DC was initially waitlisted at Beauvoir and then they offered acceptance about a week later. And I know people at both schools who have been admitted from the waitlist. Definitely let the admissions folks know if you're still interested. Best of luck

I think I was shocked they asked and it felt like I was telling them something personal that was my son’s private information to share or not share. YMMV

I would have done the same if a random parent asked me.

Can’t stress this enough, OP, follow up with the schools. Let them (or one) know how much you love the school. Someone on another thread suggested calling or writing once. I respectfully disagree. My DC got off the K waitlist after 2 months of follow up. I didn’t call all of the time, but I checked in regularly. They were kind, honest and helpful. It’s not a guarantee- I know things are much different now since the pandemic. It can only help, though.
Best of luck to you and everyone else.

I think the generally accepted code for “no” is the be rejected.

I'm sorry, OP. It's impossible to tell. Waitlist is definitely not code for "No" -however, the odds that your child, specifically, will be asked in off the waitlist are not high. I would plan to move on but if it happens down the line, that's a nice surprise.

My child was waitlisted at NPS and Beauvoir. I have been told different things but finally a friend said it was code for "No" so I could move on soon if it happened. This is for K
