I loved our Arms Reach co sleeper for EBF. after getting the hang of it it was so wonderful not to fully wake up.

Never used a bassinet. Straight to the crib and it worked fine.

Yes, you can skip the bassinet. Just go straight to the crib you plan to use.

We did not have one...in fact, our baby was such a loud sleeper, he was in his own room from the beginning. In our room he was constantly waking us up when he was not awake.

If your concern is minimizing baby stuff, I wouldn’t sweat the bassinet. You only need it for a few months. The key to minimal baby stuff is really about moving it in and out at right moment. If you don’t keep anything you’re not using in the near term, it’s manageable. What you don’t want is to have the baby swing sitting in the corner when the baby is two, etc. Even if you’re having more than one, you can give away stuff and then get it again via mom groups and Facebook.

We did a pack n play with our first. I am renting a Snoo for the second though.

You definitely don’t need one. However I found it nice to have the baby by the bed and I think it’s a little more comfortable for them than the big crib. Also the mesh sides were key - my baby liked to snuggle up in them. She would mouth the bars of the crib and become upset because she couldn’t move her face away. Mesh bumpers helped but I would be nervous about them with a newborn.

I would skip it if space is a big issue but otherwise, get one. You can almost certainly find one for free or close to it. Neighborhood listserv or Facebook.

I’m surprised by these answers, mom of two and I guess I did have particularly tough and colicky newborns but for the newborn phase, I’m of the opinion to make your life easier. My friend used the rolling mini crib and after a few weeks ordered a bassinet because she said it was too much of a pain to get him in and out, too much in their room etc. personally if breastfeeding in the beginning (had trouble with both so didn’t breastfeed terribly long but in the beginning many are) it’s nice to have something easy to get them in and out of.

For our first I was trying to minimize baby stuff as well so I got the lotus travel crib with their bassinet attachment and we used that. Can’t say I loved that bassinet though but we love the travel crib so it did work out overall. So just saying I understand the feeling, but after two tough newborns I go for ease! You can always sell the baby stuff though I mostly give mine away

For my second baby, I realized how much baby stuff is companies' marketing, trying to get you to spend more.

DC2 was never in a bassinet. We use a mini crib, on wheels so it can be rolled close to my bed at night. The mono crib mattress also has three hight settings. She is 10 months now and still using the mini crib.

I’ve never had a bassinet and found them super awkward at the hospital. Just get a crib.

Yes. It’s hard enough to get your kid to sleep in one thing. Just start with a crib and stick with that. He will outgrow the bassinet so quickly anyway.

First time mom and wondering if I can have the crib in our room and skip the bassinet to minimize baby stuff. I’m planning to EBF and hoping for a vaginal birth. If I have a c-section, I will get the bassinet.
