OP here and it’s more like I’m standing over the washer putting in my clothes and MIL comes running over next to me with 6 of her and fil’s underwear and asks ‘can just add the little items inside with your load of laundry? This is all I need washed!’

What can I say, no you can’t?! Start a separate load after me to wash you 6 underwear?

She probably doesn’t want to be wasteful and do an entire load for six small items. What you should say is your get them on the next load- and do them separately.

The opposite. MIL used to do her own laundry and then gather up ours from our bedroom and do it. I had to tell her thanks but she needed to stop washing our clothes on her visits. She was trying to help.

Why can’t they bring 6 pairs of socks and underwear? I have never understood this. On day 2 they are asking to add to our laundry, but we don’t do laundry on Tuesdays. So then they run a load with 4 pairs of socks, 4 underwear, 2 pants and 2 shirts. Our water bill is exponentially higher during their visits.

Their showers are probably having a greater effect on your water bill than their laundry. And none of those effects are exponential.

OP here. Disposable gloves are a great idea. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that before. They don’t ask me to wash anything else, just their underwear. I’m not sure why they don’t bring more with them. I hate it ugh.

That being said, it’s not your job to do it for them, their son should do it or get someone to do it if they aren’t able to do it themselves. Only exception is if your husband is sick or has an important deadline to meet.

Ours always did it themselves when they visited often but they are getting old now and only visit once a year so hubby and I try to help as much as we can or get a cleaner to come if we are busy.

Mine do laundry while here, but don't add to my loads.

No, but my mail has asked to borrow underwear.
I would just wash them alone if I were you, but yes, I’d find that repulsive. I don’t even like to touch my kids underwear.

What, they know they’re coming for 5 days but only bring 2 pairs of underwear? Although it makes absolutely no sense is completely illogical, it would kind of gross me out too.

I think I’d tell them let me do this load and then the washer will be free

Ok I know this is a weird question but if your in-laws stay at your home when they come to visit, do they ask you to wash their undergarments when you are doing a load of laundry? Mine do and I find it slightly repulsive. Am I overreacting?
