Subject: What is wrong with MOCO politicans?
I have lived in MoCo for 30+ years. I think different council members have different problems, but developer funding re-elections of those who do their bidding is the biggest problem. They are about to get huge tax breaks to build more dense housing, and yet our infrastructure (roads for cars and pedestrians, schools, public safety and more) is a disaster.
Rice changes his mind constantly, whoever has his ear last is the direction he goes. Reimer tells whoever he is talking to whatever they want to hear (true slimy politician, who changes directions with the wind), Friendson is bound by what his developer friends want (actually, developers fund most of their council members re-elections), Katz is actually a decent guy - consistent in his values, Jawando is too self-interested, Albornoz knows what he knows about but hasn't delved into what he doesn't and isn't interested, Glass is a decent guy but not great, Hucker is a mouth piece for Jill O-F, and Navarro's time is just about up with is a good thing.
This liberal lefty says it is time to clean house.

Yeah there is a zero chance I’m voting for anyone in the primary who doesn’t push back on the recommendation to keep masking toddlers. Zero.

I'm a progressive and I think they are crazy. I don't think I can bring myself to vote for any of them. They pass useless bills that harm small businesses, they bow down to the teachers' union no matter what, they think racial equity means listening to White people and doing what they want in most cases but calling them "privileged" anytime they want to flex their progressive cred or go on a power trip. They have no idea how to gather real input from communities of color. They don't know how to use common sense, unlike most communities that recognized that the CDC's recommendation to require toddlers and preschoolers to mask was dumb and likely harmful to their development.

The “aging demographic “ has been paying taxes for years — and paying for services that only minimally benefit them as part of a larger community. Were you thinking that they should pay taxes for schools and other services that they don’t use — without getting anything beneficial from their investment?

The problem is they rarely listen. They come up with their "brilliant" ideas in an echo chamber and then go through the motions of having public hearings. The best we ever get out of them is a good policy idea with bad execution. Build more housing is a good policy idea. Paying subsidies to developers to build things they were going to build anyway is bad execution. Grow the county's economy is a good idea. Coming up with a master plan that focuses on housing and then hopes lots of houses will magically make high-paying jobs appear is bad execution. Let's build a transit center at the Silver Spring metro is a good idea. Delivering a flawed building late is bad execution. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

There is zero diversity in thought. They all from areas like SS and TP. Many in the govt have never had a real job in their Iives - they've either worked for the govt or have some phony/creampuff filled bloated resume with all positions listed at some crappy community activist organizations.
The people running MoCo are the grownup versions of the annoying RAs.in college who got ego boosts off of their lame power trips. Or they are all of the soft majors in college who couldn't cut it in the hard sciences, engineering, or finance and had nothing else to turn to except to a crappy liberal arts degree in underwater basket weaving. The only jobs for those fluff majors though are of course govt jobs or community orgs who no one knows about.
The county is run by people who have earned their entire living from the govt, so of course the solution to everything is more govt and higher taxes. Zero diversity in thought and life experience. Hardly any previous business owners who've had to build something from scratch. Hardly anyone in the govt with previous experience in private industry at the managerial or executive level. That's why the county is so anti-business.
