Subject: When will we hear from waitlisted magnet high schools?
My son was wait pool for Poolesville last year. He heard from one program beginning of March and wasn’t accepted to any of the others. They will send a note at some point and basically say they’ve filled all their spots. I can’t remember when that was. SMCs generally has zero people they get in off list- but the others move.

Just a little background about how the waitpools tend to move for both MS and HS.
The initial offers go out to students, who may have more than one offer. When the students say which program they select, that may create empty slots (or none), depending on how yield balanced out. This is the first organized selection from the waitpool. After this point, MS programs tend to be stable, unless families move.
For high school, the next main opportunity for spaces to open is when private schools put out their acceptances. Some students will turn down a program to go to private. After that, the HS programs are also stable unless someone moves.
If you haven't heard by early May, it is worth contacting the Magnet Coordinator to let them know you are still interested. Also worth contacting again mid-summer. If you are higher on their list of "I'm pretty sure this person will accept", then they may call you first to fill a late opening space.

I'm pretty sure it was wait list - from 2 of the IB programs at Rockville.
Yes, Rockville IB is an "interest-based" program, so admission is via a lottery and has a wait list. As opposed to RM IB, which is a "criteria-based" program, so admission is via evaluation of application, grades, assessments, etc, and has a wait pool.

They do wait pools reviews in batches about once a month through the school year, then at least once over the summer.
