You really didn't "have" to wear one at any time for pickup or drop off. I've not worn one outside like that in ages, and no one seems to give a damn. I've not been the only one. What are they going to do, tell you to leave and not take your kid with you?

I'm sorry... "work through" choices and issues? Are you kidding me? These kids are now in therapy because of mask decisions?

well, some of these kids literally believe they will kill people if they don't wear a mask. So that's the burden we've put on kids, and yeah, it's going to take a lot for some of them to work through that.

Not at Lafayette but I paged through the PK-3 story to see if it's something I might want to suggest at our school. The message is pretty basic and makes sense -- mostly just making sure kids understand the rules and emphasizing that some kids and grown-ups might still make outside and that's ok too. And honestly, as someone who has worked in organizational communications, this is how you are supposed to introduce policy changes in order to get buy-in and ensure that people have a chance to raise questions. The concept is even more important when the organization has a population with little say in the policy itself, and who may struggle with change (you know, like little kids?).

NP. This is so incredibly sad. I have empathy for the kids, but not the terrible parents who instilled this anxiety and guilt in their children.

East of the Park (Rock Creek) and West of the Park. It's only relevant in that the demographics of schools WOTP are pretty homogenous (whiter, richer) so there are often different attitudes about things in the WOTP schools than there are in the rest of the city.

I was pleased to see that the majority of parents weren't wearing them at drop off today. Some were still in KN95s though. Also, the staff members checking the screening app outside were still masked, which frankly surprised me.

Curious about whether yesterday's announcement that DCPS no longer requires outdoor masking has had any impact.

Masking at my DCPS elementary (EOTP) was close to 100% today. I saw a few parents without masks walking away from the school but I'm not sure if they were wearing masks for drop-off or not. Everyone I saw actually on school property was masked.

Will ask DC whether they take masks off at recess later today but my money is on no. I didn't tell him what to do one way or another -- I don't want to put him in an awkward position and he'll just do what his friends do anyway, which I think is fine for this issue. I'd love for him to be able to go mask free, but I don't want to turn him into some kind of anti-mask vigilante either. He doesn't mind wearing it.
