It will affect enrollment decisions. We will not choose our local Montessori for kindergarten if it still requires masks.

I think many people are frustrated that really only in home day cares seem to be mask optional in DC and MOCO. If you are happy with your situation that’s great but I feel strongly that an in home daycare would not work well for my 4 year old and while I would move him over this issue, there are no preschools to move him to. It’s a big issue but it’s not the only issue.

If you don’t like where you are, find new care. Our in-home has never had kids masked. And while we still have to drop off at the door, we can see the entire space from the door. You have options, use them.

This seems like potentially a director problem (along with the larger policy problems of course), our director has regularly made changes and updated our guidance as things have shifted. I would say there is a change every few months to the policies. For example, kids are outside most of the day at our preschool and typically have not had to be masked outside, but there have been two times during surges when kids have been asked to mask outside, but it’s always short term and once things slow down they update the policy. This is all director driven by being really responsive to updated cdc guidelines etc, consults with pediatricians, etc. I have to say it hasn’t seemed easy and I think we just got lucky with a particularly responsive and confident director, it seems to me that schools that are still doing temperature checks etc have directors who don’t have the bandwidth/confidence/whatever I’m not sure to be moving with the ever changing recs and risk calculations so they just stay the course because it’s easier for them

Literally my daycare is still in lockdown like it's 2020. No parents allowed in the building-have to drop kids off at the front door. And temperature checks at drop off for both parent and child and for parent at pickup. Literally nothing has changed since they reopened in summer 2020. Nothing.

Same and I'm also near tears. I just feel like I'm running up against a brick wall. This is all so obviously not good for little kids and no one cares.

Everyone should just stop. Stop sending their TWO year old in a mask. It’s not 2020 anymore.

Although I've heard of a handful going mask optional-mine has basically said they have no plans to stop masking. MAYBE after the vaccine is available. I just don't get it. What is the point if everywhere else-literally everywhere else stops masking???
