Congratulations!

And I get what you are saying but your kid is not a check mark. I truly think many but not all schools know how to determine the best fit for their school given enrollment limitations. I have always thought UVA was really good at this.

And I am a parent of a kid rejected from UVA EA last year. (And the kid is very happy where they landed, so all is well).

The retention/graduation rate is just great.

Wishing your kid a wonderful four years at UVA!

Uva is bananas over languages. Not sure why - I’ve traveled extensively and everyone speaks English but whatever. Congrats to your kid - nice to hear that someones dreams are coming true

Congrats OP. I will hire a UVA grad over Ivy all day long.

I’m OP. Undecided still, but College of Arts and Sciences.

He’s just a well-rounded kid with solid, but not outstanding, test scores and a decent, but not spectacular, GPA. He had a uniquely honest essay, so maybe that helped, but honestly, I think he was lucky to fit into a niche they wanted to fill.

So for those of you doing this next year: Make a wish on that check mark all by itself and apply to the reaches.

What do you think the niche was that he matched?

I’m OP. I don’t know. He played a sport, was in band, has five years of a language. Like I said, he’s really well rounded, but not astonishing in any particular metric. So maybe the niche was “curious kid who is interested in lots of stuff.”

Seriously. We did Naviance this weekend.

It was grim.

Hi. I’m OP. We had the same experience. But somebody’s gotta be that check mark on the bottom left of the cluster. It could be your kid.
