We vacation in Ithaca on the lake. It's a beautiful town!

Same. I went there and for people who like the outdoors, it's beautiful. Dartmouth is as well, but Cornell has more course options and more down-to-earth students than Dartmouth. If you want a city, pick something else. There were certainly students I knew from NYC who missed being in a city. Also, some of us love winter weather.

Brown and Dartmouth are not in vibrant cities either.

I mean, it's a world class university. I spent a summer there and I absolutely loved it. Some people want an urban setting, some people prefer more rural. You know, how people have different opinions about life? I did my undergrad at NYU and I regret being in such a bustling, urban place for college! In fact, if I could have plopped it in the middle of nowhere, that would have been perfect!

Easiest ivy to get into especially if you're from New York. Some students really need ivy validation.

The nature at Cornell is great. Where else can you see a waterfall walking to class and go hiking on the weekend. The town is cute. The academic programs are great. When I think of some of the other Ivy schools ... I would hate to pay NYC cost of living as a Columbia student and would worry about safety off-campus at Columbia, Yale or Penn, especially for kids not from the city.

1. It’s easier to get into than the majority of the other ivys
2. NY residents can get in state tuition at several of their colleges
3. It has a world renowned hotel administration program

It has an amazing program for agriculture and life sciences. I went to Brown / MIT and I'm toying with the idea of retiring early and doing a program for Ecology/Evolutionary Biology/Entomology and they have one of the best ones. I'm European from a wine producing country and my cousin, who now owns wineries, graduated from their Viticulture and Enology program. I heard that their Hospitality program is also great.

My kid loved Cornell! He liked the campus and he liked the students.

when it comes to Ivy League schools I'm curious as to why Cornell is a choice for some students when all of the other Ivies are close to vibrant thriving cities where is Cornell is in the middle of someplace that is very bleak. What does it have going for it? People clearly go there and enjoy it but I am wondering what attracts them.
