I only use synthetic oil and never miss routine maintenance. I don't mind the occasional repair bill either. Nothing about it embarrasses me even when others have brand new cars. I figure they mostly also have $700 car payments.

Also, it is not correct English to say "I'm embarrassed of my car". You could say "My car embarrasses me." or "I find my car to be embarrassing." YWIA

Nope. I love my ‘89 Accord. It’s in great condition. I’m comfortable with the personal and financial decisions that I’ve made — and not in the least embarrassed by having a wonderful reliable car and no car payment or debt.

I drive a 17-year old Honda Accord. I keep it clean, washed and regularly maintained. I’m not paying today’s prices for a new car and I couldn’t care less if others view my ride negatively.

I'm embarrassed by ___ [him, her, it, them, my car]. All sounds correct to me.

No, my 2006 car has scrapes & dings but not embarrassed at all. It's a transportational tool not a show piece.
I might be embarrassed if the interior is messy and disgusting, noone wants to sit in slop.

I inherited a 2004 Accord that runs great, is comfy and allows me to remember my loved one. But, I also have a new car that I alternate driving days with. Not embarrassed one bit of my Oldie Roadie.

With used car prices these days nobody is judging you.

Get it detailed for $100-200. There’s a guy in south Arlington by auto stop.
Then buy the new car smell from Amazon. $7

Not at all. I have a 2008 CRV. Love it because it drives so well. Good handling. It gets me from A to B nicely.
I don't like others riding in my car only because I like to keep it in good shape so when I sell it, I get more money. And people are rough on your cars you know.
I hate to get rid of my car because it is still very usable.

A few suggestions:

With all the money you’re saving get the car detailed often. At least a full service wash/wax/vacuum a month so you’re not embarrassed to have someone sit with you for a ride.

If carpet is stained spring for a shampoo. If mats are worn invest in a full set of weather tech molded all weather mats. Those clean up the look quite well and preserve your floors cleanlines in between cleans.

As for exterior consider replacing head lights and bulbs. The clear plastic light covers will do wonders if yours are faded or dull. New high intensity headlights will take away 4-6 years from how it looks at dusk and help with safety

Good luck - you’re doing great. In 5-7 more years it’ll be a classic.

I drive a car that over 15 years old. It's reliable and gets me from A to B. I've been noticing lately I'm becoming embarrassed of my vehicle. For instance, I would never want to give someone outside of my immediate family a ride in it. Even though I'm embarrassed, I don't care enough to spend thousands of dollars on a new nicer car. Those of you with old cars do you feel embarrassed about your car?
