Anything by Ruth Ware

I liked Something in the Water and Catherine Steadman's other books. I was surprised to learn, when I was looking up her name, that there are discussion questions for thrillers. Like, why?

Dream Girl (and other Laura Lippman books in general)
Lock Every Door, Riley Sager
The Dry, Jane Harper (all her books are great)
Vicious, VE Schwab (and the sequel Vengeful)

For Sager books I enjoyed Home Before Dark the most. It had a nice spooky atmospheric quality.

I have not read his most recent, Survive the Night.

- The Fourth Monkey trilogy by JD Barker (serial killer story)

- Verity by Colleen Hoover

I loathed this book with the heat of a thousand suns. So predictable and absurdly erotica-dominated, not to mention poorly written.

These are older, but two I really like are Deep Impact by Lincoln Child (one of the Preston-Child authors; many of their joint works are also good, but this one by just Child is one of my favorites) and Mayday. I think there's a newer edition of Mayday but the one I've read is the original from the 70s (I think, or maybe early 80s). Pretty gripping. And yes I do sometimes take it along when I fly just for the extra frisson, LOL.

I just finished sharp objects and I hated it. I hated all the characters! Why did so many people like this book? I enjoyed your other two.

Agree that all the characters are terrible, but it has me on edge the whole time. But I listened to the audio book, so maybe that made it better?

I’m pp, and I listened also. I wondered if the narrator made it worse, lol. Who knows.

It’s not my favorite genre and I can’t read too many of that kind of book but I like them in moderation.

I liked Gone Girl, the Girl on the Train, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rebecca.
