If you can't swing a flight into Ithaca then Syracuse is the next best option.

This is the answer. There are frequent buses (OurBus) for students going from Syracuse Airport to Ithaca/Cornell and vice versa. Or students get rides to the Syracuse Airport with other kids flying out for the holiday. It is a 70 minute drive at most from Syracuse Airport to Cornell.

Correct, it is a straight shot on the highway. For perspective, we live in DC, and it takes us the about the same amount of time to get to Dulles or BWI in traffic as it does to get to the Syracuse airport from Cornell.

It is only an hour drive from the Syracuse airport to Cornell, it is really easy. Syracuse airport is a good mid-size airport and there are direct flights to Syracuse from many hubs including Denver, Charlotte, O’Hare and Philadelphia. There are also direct flights to Ithaca from Dulles, so you could connect through DC.

We do this trip often, Cornell alums with family in Ithaca.

Everyone above is correct, LOL. I grew up near there. 67 minutes to Syracuse is about as bad as it would ever be -- there's no traffic.

Planning flights, it would be good to check ALL those options -- Syracuse, Binghamton, Elmira, and Ithaca.

My kid drives back to DMV so I'm not on top of this but I believe OurBus runs limited bus shuttles to SYR airport specifically for the breaks. I remember that recently, there appears to be an OurBus scheduler/employee that solicits and posts on the parents FB when it is close to the breaks to see what the demand is.

Besides ITH airport, there is Elmira/Corning and Binghampton to look into. I don't think there are bus shuttles there so chartered taxi, Uber (limited in Ithaca currently) are your ways to get there.

Many other kids, especially internationals, take the multiple bus options from campus to the NYC area to access the 3 airports there. There is usually a nonstop bus to the DC area (Bethesda/Montgomery Mall) where your kid can then hop on a flight from one of the 3 airports in the DC area.

For a visit with parents, so renting a car is an option, you can fly into Syracuse or Elmira, which is what my siblings do when they visit our parents

My friends that lived on the west coat used to fly from Ithaca to NYC and then home.

They only went home for the big breaks--winter and summer. Thanksgiving wasn't worth flying home for so they would go to a friend on the east coast.

Ithaca has a small airport. Flights will costs a lot and have layovers

I think OP is basically asking where you fly into (maybe how big/active the airport is, how many flights come in, etc.) and how do you get to campus. Good questions, sorry I don't know the answers. I did a summer program at Cornell 20+ years ago and it was a wonderful experience, but we were able to drive. I don't remember the process for those from further away. GL!

Hi, do any of you have current undergrads in Cornell who have to fly in from the West or South? How do the logistics work? I have a junior who would like to explore but just planning the trip is making me anxious. Surely it must not be as hard as it looks? We will be flying in from TX. Thanks for any advice.
