I……I am just baffled. You understand full time $25/hr is $50k a year right? You’re suggesting a full time housekeeper should be making 80-100k per year?????

DH and I are both clean-freaks. And it’s better, in our experience, to offer a great housekeeper a full time job with benefits to handle everything house-related for us. We want to spend our weekends and evenings with our child and each other.

+1. I agree. Offering a full-time position is better and easier in the long run. We have a full time housekeeper/cook 9 to 5 every weekday and without the childcare.

Sounds good, OP. Most housekeepers have no problem keeping an eye on an older kid. But, as others have said, make your expectations clear upfront.

I think it’s fine if your daughter is self sufficient and well behaved. I’d go over expectations with her- she comes in, she isn’t to bother the housekeeper unless she really needs something (she got hurt, etc) and the housekeeper doesn’t work for her (isn’t there to make her snack etc- unless that’s going to be part of the plan in which case that’s fine I think). As long as everyone is on the same page.

NP but how is this post relevant? Some people choose to live differently than you. I could argue why your family only needs one car even if you have 2, but maybe 2 is just more convenient for you and worth the expense.

Make sure you speak with your 12-year-old about how to treat this housekeeper well. Good manners and basic respect are expected. Kids sometimes act differently when the parent is not there. So make sure you child also knows how to behave well.

I think it’s fine — as long as you’re very clear about what the responsibilities and priorities should be, and as long as the pay reflects what could be a significant responsibility.

I think it’s fine, just be honest about it when you interview.

We’re looking for a full time housekeeper and cook who will do some errands, grocery shopping, meal prep, laundry and full housecleaning. Is it too much to ask her to also keep an eye on our 12 year old (6th grader) for about an hour or so after school on some days (she has sports most days). What about mild illness sick days?

Our daughter is pretty self sufficient but I’d like to have her accountable to an adult when we aren’t home.
