I saw a few references to “DC Republican society” in there and was surprised that such a thing exists, given the transient nature of DC and politics, and that it was presented as something to aspire to. Is that a real thing? I assume the Democrats have their own counterpart? I’m not from the area, but it all seems rather silly.
Then this will surprise you too: Many of us, who have families who have lived here for several generations, do not view or experience DC as transient. Some have long-standing interests in politics, and want to be involved with others who share similar interests. I’m not sure why this would seem silly — even to someone not from the area. Transients also have interests, even if their commitment to such interests is limited by their relative transience.

Yes it exists - in Chevy Chase area. Lots of people that have either been here their whole lives or others that have moved in and gone to private high school/prep school or college with them. Remember the "Women for Kavanaugh" group? That's them.
Oh interesting; I didn't realize that it's so hyper-local. I was aware that political affiliation groups existed, I didn't realize they're more insular here; I interpreted the ballet thread as referring to there being some long-standing Republican social hierarchy.![]()
14:35 is right, I've met fun friendly people on both sides of the aisle here.
It’s not just Chevy Chase, it’s parts of upper NW, it’s Kalorama, its Georgetown, it’s Mass Ave Heights, it’s McLean. It’s wherever the money is, there’s going to be a subset of Republican think tankers and lobbyists and lawyers even in a very Democratic area.

Agree. But fortunately most of these Republicans are fairly moderate. Very few MAGA idiots. Lifelong CC resident and Democrat.
