I cried with joy when I found out I was having a girl after a boy.

I guess it's the silver lining being infertile - with IVF, we have a little more choice with gender if we choose to do the genetic testing. We might for baby #2. But typically the people I've known that wanted a specific gender, accepted their family as-is and embraced it.

I am not white American, but I agree that all white American woman I know wants to have a daughter and I always wonder why?? For dressing them up like princess?

As a person with a gender nonconforming child, this post disturbs me on so many levels.

well, mine really wanted a girl, and was extremely disappointed to get a boy! oh well. he doesn't want to try again so he gets to deal with that one boy now.

I think if this is actually a genuine concern of yours about your husband, it’s time to reevaluate your marriage. I can’t imagine being married to such a misogynist, narcissistic and immature man. A child is a child, boy or girl. Be grateful for whatever gender you are blessed with. This isn’t the 18th century!

Well, the one family I know who kept trying has 3 girls.

My DH certainly had some preference for a boy. He grew up with a sister, and all female cousins. The only other baby on that side was a girl. Our first was a girl and he was absolutely smitten with her. So when I got pregnant again he was very much okay with having another girl. Of course the huge WHOOP/full arm pump he let out when we saw the boy parts on the ultrasound maybe betrayed that stance a bit, but he played the part well in the lead up.

I can not imagine he would have wanted a 3rd to have a boy because we were exhausted by our 2! And I will outlive him because I have way better family genes than he does so no, that is not a concern I would have had even without our son.

That's what grandkids are for.

Unless you're married to a duke or the world's biggest a-hole, I can't imagine this being a real concern.

Well. I have a boy and a girl. But I know some friends of mine keep trying for a specific gender till they get their wishes or giving up after the 3rd/4th ones. They are still happy family, but I think maybe with a bit of regret. They are overjoyed when they get grandkid of the gender they want.

I think cheating or having another marriage is a bit overboard. If the family is still young & have $, they can pay money to pick specific gender.

And didn’t get one, do you ever wonder if he will have one through a second marriage, AP or after you die? Men can theoretically have babies till their 70s,80s and the biological drive for a male heir seems strong in some men
