Heh heh heh. No one who is actually familiar with Hogan’s practices regarding state contracts would consider Democrats more “feckless,” especially considering Hogan’s practice of giving contracts to friends and allies.

This, he isn't a great governor but far not the worst. He handled covid poorly.

How has he handled COVID poorly?
- had to step in March 2020 to order a statewide closure of schools while MoCo officials were hemming and hawing
- set up highly effective network of mass vaccination sites that targeted the poorest, most vulnerable and vaccine averse communities first and provided vaccination to everyone, regardless of legal status or even if you were a state resident (probably half of DC got vaccinated at Six Flags)
- allowed individual counties to develop and implement their own vaccine programs, none of which were as effective or efficient as the
- leader in pushing schools to reopen safely for in person instruction

The one negative? At a time of desperation and trying everything to help the people of this state, he misspent $10m because he didn’t fully vet some Korean test kits. You know what Maryland Democrats probably would have done? Given a no bid contract for 4 times as much to a donor to procure test kits that never arrive.

When compared to feckless incompetence of Maryland Democrats, Hogan has been nothing short of incredible for the state.

Hogan’s position here—that he shouldn’t even have to create a record retention policy—is inexcusable. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but what’s he hiding?

Hogan never claimed to get a planeload of PPE— he claimed he got a planeload of tests from South Korea, but if you actually paid attention to the followup it turns out he overpaid for tests that didn’t work, weren’t FDA approved and had to be returned. $9 million of taxpayers money wasted for a publicity stunt that helped no one except Hogan’s PR machine (don’t forgrt another $500,000 to charter a plane to fly the useless unapproved tests here).

This is classic Hogan— look like a reasonable and competent Republican but really he’a no different from the rest of the money wasting crony capitalist right wing hacks.

Stupid comment. Yes, Hogan made a mistake here. But he was thinking ahead, and trying to get something done. No doubt, money was wasted due to do COVID, but being a Monday am QB is easy.

If you read the editorial they make the point that if Hogan just said “sorry I made a mistake, I was trying my best for MD in uncertain times and it turns out I wasted $10 million” people would probably cut him a break, even though if he had just followed common sense (don’t commit to buying tests until you k ow they are FDA approved) and procurement regs he wouldn’t have wasted that money.

Instead he’s never owned up to it— he just said the tests were “traded in” for a better version and refused to discuss of any of the Korean tests were ever even used by Maryland residents. What he cares about is his photo op and that’s all he cares about.

I love governor Hogan. I think he’s done a great job and I am happy for his leadership during Covid. But, this does not feel right. If it’s legal, it should not be, and if he has violated the rules then he needs to be held accountable for it.

+1 WTF. Governments have records retention laws. Hogan is trying to pull a Trump just like when he banned residents from his Facebook page.
