I’m the person who originally replied to OP. My dog is a 76 lb greyhound. He loves running with other dogs, but spends most of the day sleeping. He loves making new friends, but probably finds daycare exhausting, simply because it’s so many hours of being awake. 😂

Forgot to add he has been bitten twice so that is what makes me nervous. Once in a dog park and once by his bio mom ( long story) Not aggressive but, has barked at dogs. We used Blue boarding for a few times daycare before neutering and have had no reason to do so after he has been neutered. But, with the summer coming up we would like to take a vacation but, want him to be happy as well.

Can PPs who used Healthy Hound describe the sizes of their dogs? I have a Lab who's ~75 pounds and LOVES running with other dogs more than anything in the whole wide world, so I'm looking for a daycare place where she could burn off some energy and get some great social interaction in the Bethesda/Rockville area.

Not at the new Rockville location, but I use the Sterling location at least 3 days a week and have for the past 4 years. They are fantastic! I recommend them to everyone I know who is looking for a great doggy daycare and/or boarding facility. They also do excellent grooming at the Sterling location.

We have used them multiple times and I've been happy with them. Booking is easy/fast. Communication is good. The feedback I get on my dog makes me think they actually are paying attention because they describe his personality (good and bad) exactly as I would. We had one issue with a dog biting our dog's ear (very minor cut) and they handled it as I would have wanted: pulled him from daycare, called me, sent pictures, kept him out until it healed, reassessed and offered to take him to our vet (after calling our vet to see the type of appointment required), never placed with same dog and kept him in smaller groups.

We have used other boarding places in the area, we keep coming back to Healthy Hound.

Their intake paperwork is extremely detailed and they require you to do a (free) trial half or full day of daycare before boarding the first time so they know your dog’s temperament. They’re happy to show you around and answer questions. They’re in the same building as Blue Pearl Animal Hospital, so I feel like they’d have access to quick care in the event of some sort of health emergency. Okay wish they had cameras with a live feed, but I’d definitely use them again.

This is op. Thank you! Was your pet ok after? Did they settle in and how long were you gone? How old is your pup?

My dog is 4 years old and has some separation anxiety. The day we dropped him off for his trial day of daycare, they first took him to a suite to decompress and get used to the sounds before they introduced him to other dogs. He was relaxed enough that he napped. Then they introduced him to the play area and other dogs. They called me to let me know that he was doing great.

He was excited when we returned to board him after his trial day of daycare, so I think he had fun. He was happy and played nicely and relaxed when he was with people and other dogs, but at night, when he was alone in his little suite, he destroyed the dog bed we brought from home. He does that at home too if we leave, so that really had nothing to do with the boarding facility. (He’s a pandemic pup who’s not used to being alone.) He stayed there for 5 nights and they even gave him his Heartgard while he was there. They were extremely friendly and happy to tell me how he was doing when I called to check in. They seemed to get to know the dogs’ personalities.

The night we brought our dog home, he was thirsty and then he was a little more tired for a day or two after he came home, but he had eaten well and was in good shape.

Thank you very much! My pup is also a pandemic pup and has been away but with his foster mom and dad ( so doesn't really count) I looked at other facilities but, they don't have the 24-7 coverage that Healthy Hound does and the vet next door is a plus.

Looking to board my one year old mutt. Like that is supervised 24-7. Looking for any personal experience. Do they have an outside play area?

Thanks!
