NO way is ND or UVA on the same tier as Cal. Cal is a major, internationally recognized research university. Notre Dame is an amazing regional school with fantastic community but its not the same, sorry. UVA is a solid regional/national university but not on same scale.

Every other school listed is niche or local, so it would depend on your personal preference.

Tulane is popular and has a fun factor for kids these days, so that might raise it above its academics, which are mediocre.

UVA is clearly a step down from Notre Dame.

Now that college admissions aren’t dependent on smarts and hard work (it now seems pretty random for the millions of kids who have good grades and test scores), I really can’t trust “name brands” any longer. This is probably a good thing. I am more likely to judge a candidate on their college coursework and grades and what they can actually do.

All others are just good name brand colleges and I'd consider other things about the student and their resume beyond their school.
