OP, did Wes give them different information in the pre-read?

Did the recruit ask explicitly if a band was being used for their admission and was told yes?

If both of those answers are "yes" then if true it is not good.

How does that end their athletic career? They can play elsewhere right? Are athletes full pay or do they receive scholarships for their sports?

Exactly- if these kids were recruited specifically to Wes, there is always a chance that admissions doesn't agree with the coach, but that ends their athletic career unless they were negotiating with other schools (not typical if ED). ALso reading several instances of Wes also deferring kids from ED1 to ED2 and then denying them ED2. This practice removed the opportunity to ED2 elsewhere and totally placed them in a bind, because if they said no to being moved to ED2 and asked for RD, that would have been automatic denial. So if they still wanted Wes after ED1, sticking with Wes moving them to ED2 was their only choice. Pretty crappy tactics coming out of Wesleyan.

I literally don't care - 80% of college athletes at DD's high school wouldn't have gotten into their school without sports. Good for Wesleyan for maintaining standards.

How would you know this? I mean how do you know the numbers?

OP, was your child recruited to Wesleyan? What exactly was said to them?

They may still get in. A Wesleyan athletic recruit likely comes from a lot of money, coaches are both not careful in texts when extending offers and are agents of the school. Combine the three and the school will probably have to reconsider.

Maybe they accepted students who would contribute to the community in other ways. Sports isn't everything or the most important thing.

I don’t understand what is bothering you. Coaches don’t have the athletic pull that you think they do. Don’t blame Wesleyan if the student’s grades and SAT scores were not high enough.
