economics major from uChicago class of 2021, no job yet.

My DD graduated with a 2.3 GPA with a math major from a school in the ACC conference last year. She also had a hard time finding a job because she didn't have any connections. She taught herself computer programming for a few months and got two industry certifications. She found a job four months after graduation working as a gov. contractor for 80k/year. She left that job after six months and is now working for Apple for 130k/year.

Companies love hiring females with computer knowledge because they want diversities. Your DD, with her math background, can pick up programming languages in a few months, and it is quite easy. She can get industry certifications like AWS. No one cares about your GPA if you have industry certifications.

About 80 places here, too. Getting a first decent job is the hardest.

Is her GPA in her major better than her overall GPA. I’ve heard it recommended to list that on her resume.

Did she do an internship with a company that may be interested in hiring her full time?

But she can definitely try to put her best foot forward. For example, she could list her major GPA if it’s higher. I’ve seen other people only list upper level courses if their worst grades happened during freshman year. However, if you lie, it’s almost guaranteed that the offer will be rescinded once they get your transcript. It’s a waste of time.

Math major from a mediocre college won't be easy to land a good job.

She should work with the college career service office. Also, apply for a wide variety of jobs. Her cover letter could talk about why she’s looking forward to working and subtly address why her grades are lower.

ugh, please don't do this. it's dishonest, and I say this as someone who lied about my resume when I was a fresh grad desperate to get hired. (I made up two jobs and a few awards and added to my resume and even though nothing did ever come of it, I spent the entire two years I worked for that company worrying about "what if"? It was no way to live. Just be honest.)

For a fresh grad, in a directly relevant field, I'd 100% ask for transcripts. I may not care about the overall low GPA if the major GPA is solid.
