At this point, I am tired of wondering what will happen with the mask policies, court cases/litigation, and legislation. Not all my kids are eligible to be vaccinated and I have given up worrying about it. I am fine with other kids not wearing masks because mine will continue to do so until their youngest sibling is vaccinated. At our ES, my guess is kids will continue to wear them until rates have reached moderate transmission.

This. We actually would support continued masking for everyone for a while yet. I know some people get hysterical when I say that but it is NBD, our kids don't even notice the masks, and it does seem to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Interestingly, this afternoon I was walking past one school playground and another city playground while I was walking the dogs. Looked like over half of the kids were wearing their masks still. At each place I stopped to talk to people we know and at some point during the conversation I casually noted that some kids were wearing masks. In both cases other parents were surprised and then noted the same thing. I genuinely think these little kids were not bothered by their masks and didn't even notice they were on.


It's NBD to wear an ineffective piece of cloth over your mouth or be denied access to the education your tax dollars fund?

If you're restricting access to something my tax dollars funded- after you collected my money- either let my kid in or refund my taxes. You don't get to change the rules after I've paid.


No, there are plenty of safety measures your child has to abide by to attend public school. Also, why do you have the right to endanger other children when you send people in maskless?


+1 LOL about the poster you are responding to. He or she is conveniently forgetting (or perhaps is oblivious to) that people who support masking also pay tax dollars to support schools. I will never understand how some people can be so shortsighted and ignorant. No one has a right to endanger another person. Masks have been shown to be effective in preventing transmission of Covid and they need to stay on until there is more information about how we can continue to keep kids (and their teachers) safe.

They did not specifically discuss or mention the pending legislation. But I assumed the clarification of the mask policy, and mention of potential changes, was meant to address that indirectly.

I listened to it this morning. There was a closed session, then they approved the budget. Then Hutchings talked about the mask policy, which remains the same, although sounds like they are working through the details of what happens when we can go optional based on community spread lowering. They referenced the updated VDH guidance, which seems to state that masks can be optional in schools if you are vaccinated, and community spread is moderate or lower. The issues they are trying to figure out included wearing a mask on day 6 if testing positive, wearing a mask if you're a close contact, etc.

Did anyone attend the ACPS school board work session last night? I wasn't able to catch it. I saw the 2/17 SB meeting is canceled. I would like to know what was discussed and any feedback you had about the work session. Also, why doesn't ACPS send out information in the Express or other source about the high level talking points from the school board meetings?
