hi there! I'm wondering if the original poster might be able to share their recommendation for the interior air quality consultation company? We're looking for the same thing!!

Cheers!

Why do you care if there's dirt behind ceiling panels? Are you planning on dropping down the panels for...I can't think of why you would leave your drop-down panels off your ceiling.

Fo you have popcorn ceiling and therefore dust accumulated on these nooks and crannies?

Sounds like this air quality consultant is making stuff up to justify her fee.

Have you even seen this dirt and dust that apparently is so bad, but missed during inspection and walk through?

Honestly, I got a cleaner off of TaskRabbit. I sent her pictures of the job and she didn’t bat an eye. I tipped well!

After our renovation, my father used our crappy vacuum to clean up all the construction dust in the basement. It killed the vacuum, which was fine, because it was a cheapy buy, and got rid of the dust. I bought myself a Dyson afterward, which 11 years later still works like new.

I suggest you do the same.

Maybe try something like Servpro.

No household cleaning service is going to want to do this. They don't know that you don't have asbestos or lead dust up there. You could call around I guess, but they won't have the tools or know how to deal with it. They don't get on ladders or that kind of thing.

You could try companies that clean up after flooding/damage. Someone with heavy equipment.

Though when I had some fine dirt/silt on my unfinished basement floor after water intrusion, I spent a lot of time trying to find a company who would come scrub the concrete. I could not find anyone who would touch the job, for any amount.

This sounds like the opposite of what a previous pp recommended...a residential cleaning company. Is it just Merry Maids that you don't think would do a good job...or is it that it's different than the clean-your-living-room-and-bathroom type of cleaning that Merry Maids and similar companies would do?

That's good to know, because it's very straightforward. I would certainly tell them ahead of time so that they could ensure that it's something they felt ok sending their people out to do.

Yeah, call them and see what they say. If they won’t do it, ask them if there’s a company they recommend.

A regular cleaning company. Just tell them on the phone what you want in case they want to send them with more PPE.

We had an interior air quality consultation*, and the consultant pointed out that after 60+ years (we're 3rd owners), our basement has accumulated quite a lot of dust in the nooks and crannies of the ceilings etc. (One section has a drop ceiling w/panels). I've been doing a lot of DIY, but cleaning out the dust from the basement is one I would like to hire out.

What kind of company might be the one to do this?

(*In case anyone was curious about why: we were worried about certain things containing asbestos, but fortunately the tests were negative).
