We have a technivorm with the glass carafe and you can brew half cups. We previously had a capresso with the thermal carafe for many years but it finally gave out.

I was between the thermal carafe and glass carafe in the technivorm. I can't remember what swayed me. I think I read mixed reviews about the coffee staying hot (a problem we had with the capresso). But I was also worried about the coffee tasting awful sitting on a hot plate. Happy to report that the technivorm does a good job of keeping the coffee hot without the burnt coffee taste.

On the rare occasions that my husband is not around, I love my mini Bodum french press. It's perfect for one. We also have the chambord size, and we take that camping with us!

I am the only regular coffee drinker in my house so I bought a French press. What I like about it is that when aim not using it, it is in a cabinet so I don’t dedicate counter space to my coffee maker. I have a tea kettle that I always keep on my stove top but I think that looks nice. We have gone through a few glass French presses that broke but we now have an insulated stainless steel one we got from Amazon. It keeps the coffee very hot and it’s easy to make an extra cup for guests.

Bonavita is also a lot less than technivorm

Oxo coffee makers are less expensive than Technivorm and get very good reviews. As a PP noted, the temps are in the correct range.

Technivorm is the best, but after several years, I was tired of the effort into making the coffee (grind beans, no timer, etc). Now I have a Breville Grind Control coffee maker and it's great. The coffee isn't as good as the Technivorm, but it's still great coffee. And it grinds the beans itself and has a timer so I can set it right before I wake up and it's ready for me.

Yep, definitely a Technivorm.

+3 for the Technivorm Moccamaster. I like the thermal carafe with the manual shut off (Easier to brew a better half pot).

I had a 5c capresso (which is 5 small cups, I think 25oz total)-enough for me and a houseguest, and quick enough to brew a second pot. I upgraded to the Technivorm 1L and my home coffee is delicious. I bought an expensive Ninja and I hate it because the coffee isn't hot enough. It doesn't have a thermos warmer.

My requirements are:

usually coffee for just me but I drink a couple of cups before work

sometimes my son is home and he also drinks coffee and sometimes I have friends over for brunch so need to be able to make more than one cup at a time

and like good, dark coffee - and want to be able to buy good coffee. Not interested in a kourig.

Any good ideas please?
