This whole process really needs to change. I feel that it is much more stressful than when I applied to college. I can’t imagine what it will be like for their children!

Mine is at TJ and boy, there are so many strategies at college application, in hindsight. Maybe we should have spent the money and hired a private counselor!

DS has one admit and one deferral; all the dream schools are RD. Seems fine. Very busy with hard classes and deep into ECs right now. Once all the apps were in, his mood changed for the better, and he's actually quite pleasant for now.

DD is generally pretty even-keeled, no matter the circumstances. She stayed positive throughout 3 deferrals and 2 lower choice admittances. Now with admittance to her #2 choice, she is even more serene.

Academically she still wants to continue on the same level and not give in to seniorities.

Really stressed. Feels lots of pressure from his FCPS culture of Ivy or bust. Kid already has great choices but having a hard time appreciating them.

Google “soiling the nest”. This is normal and even healthy as kids adjust to the realities of moving out next summer.

DS is handling it but hasn’t gotten a rejection or acceptance yet due to needing financial aid so all regular decision. He’s still very involved with schoolwork, ECs and the girlfriend who is also waiting on acceptances to music schools which don’t have EAs.

Not at all. In ED and decent 1st semester grades submitted.

Now with DC1, we did RD SLACs. And February was miserable. And then COVID hit in March just as decisions were released. Just thinking about makes me anxious. Residual PTSD.

BUT— it worked out well, despite COVID. Hugs to those waiting this year. This will be behind you soon, and in 2-3 months, your kid will make a choice and you can buy the t-shirt and look forward and celebrate.

Thank you, good reminder. I definitely won’t let it turn into a mental health issue. I am curious if other kids are also on the edge. With covid, I don’t meet my mom friends face to face a lot, and I feel that I am not getting a lot of feedback or truth via texts. Thank you for sharing!

Mine only got deferrals so far and is easily triggered these days.
