I've always had a double oven but in my new house I have a single oven/microwave combo. I hate it and plan to replace it with a double oven. I cook a lot and really miss the second oven. If you bake much, it is useful. It kills me during the holidays. Also I'm tall and don't understand at all what the poster is complaining about re bending down. That's not an issue. The bottom oven in my oven/micro combo is the same height as the lower oven in a double set. It isn't a problem.

My problem is I don't know where to put the microwave. Basically I want to remodel my kitchen but would rather have teeth pulled than try to do this now.

The best choice in either direction is not to get a gas oven. I'd probably go with a single oven and a microwave oven with convection capability -- even a double oven seems like overkill for heating leftovers.

Both but get an air fryer toaster

Go look at double ovens before you consider it. Go to the store, open one and think about how you would use the bottom level. I really wanted one, but once we looked at one and realized how much bending you need to do to use the large part, it was a deal breaker.

The other advantage of a convection toaster oven is you may find that is all you need for some meals, especially if you have the counter space to get a decent sized one. They heat up so much faster, so I assume that is a good energy saver.

I use my breville convection toaster oven significantly more often for more things than my full oven. It fits a quarter sheet pan and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

We love our double oven and use the small upper one 85% of the time. It’s more practical for a family of four than a toaster oven as it takes a full size baking sheet.

We have a countertop convection oven / toaster oven. It works really well, but it does, however, take up a bit of counter space.

We use a counter top oven (toaster oven) with a convection fan multiple times a day. It probably suffices for a legitimate 80% of our re-heating or light cooking needs.

I believe it’s somewhere in the range of 1600-2000 watts, but I’m not sure.

But it is DEFINITELY, beyond any doubt, faster than any kind of conventional electric oven or split-oven, just be TSA you said, less volume to heat up.


If your battery storage bank can handle a conventional oven, then it will definitely handle a countertop oven.

We’re moving to a new property where we’ll be in well water and hope to install solar within the first few years. I’m trying to make the most efficient choices for our appliances. I want to get a double oven because I think it saves energy to not heat up a full oven space for leftover pizza. DH says a regular oven w a counter convection/air fry feature will be more efficient. I’m having a hard time figuring out how to calculate which would come out ahead.
