But 16 is about the age where I actually think it's good to allow stuff like this so that they build independence and problem solving skills in these environments. They are so close to adulthood. You can't just wait until they turn 18 and hope for the best. They need to develop these skills like they would anything else. It's scary at first but then gets easier, like most aspects of parenting.
