Family car will be needed. The young sitter is not going to install/ take out car seats every day if the kids are of that age.

For high school 15/hour and for college 20/hr.

We did this summer before last, when daycare was closed. I hired a wonderful person from care.com. She didn’t flake and took the job seriously. She was a student at GMU with lots of babysitting experience.

My nieghborhood (HOA in the exurbs) has a facebook group, and I see people posting ads for this kind of thing every spring. If your neighborhood has one, I'd suggest posting there.

One thing to keep in mind, many colleges start back for fall several weeks before public schools go back--especially if your school doesn't start until after labor day. My kids are in college now and their classes start in mid August.

Same, that’s what we paid last summer. Imagine this year it’ll be above $800

At least $20 an hour. Seven years ago we were paying $25 but for a German speaker (so special skill - more expensive).

if you pay a nice rate you will easily find someone. my daughters friend got paid 20 bucks an hour and she did that job for a few summers. my daughter had a guy offer 3.15 per hour (maybe $200 a week, i don't remember the exact details) and that was a definite no. doesn't matter if your kid is sweet, fun or sleeps all day, nobody is going to give away their summer for 3 bucks an hour.

I think it'll be more like $20 an hour. It's really hard to find someone reliable. Every summer I hear my friends complain about hiring someone only to have the sitter flake because a fun trip materialized, or a better job, etc. I would use care.com or the like. If you have a neighborhood FB group, you could try there too. I'd also definitely offer some kind of retention bonus to keep them around.

You’re looking at at least $15 an hour and gas reimbursal.

I am considering hiring a teenage/college-aged babysitter for my kids for a few weeks this summer rather than doing the traditional camp thing (mostly because all of the camps I have looked at are already full!). We have a pool club membership, so I am hoping the caregiver could take them there, to the library... and just generally hang out with them from 9:30-ish each morning until about 4:30pm each day. Has anyone done this before? What do you pay per week? How do you go about finding someone fun and responsible?
