Hi! Would you be willing to share a little bit about your delivery experience with HC4W at VHC? I am due later this summer with my first, and love them so far...just have no idea what to expect at the hospital! Did you use a doula?

Delivered three kids with them. With the first two I felt like a queen. Nurses waited on me head and foot. A doula would have been completely necessary. With the third I had less attention - there were so many deliveries that day. Over all though I had a great experience. The doctors come in to check on you during labor and are there for the delivery. But the nurses do most of the work. The doctor will come check on you once or twice (I forgot) post partum and then you have a post partum appointment 6 weeks later. Over all I find them extremely competent and caring.

+1 HC4W. Had two c sections with different OBs , both went well.

I have delivered 3 kids with them. You don’t see the doctor much during labor and depending on how long it is you may be there for several shifts. The nurses though are very competent and caring. I do think they are having some staffing issues as I had some long waits after buzzing for the nurse. I delivered there in February. You see the doctor one or twice in postpartum it you are mostly in the care of the nurses. I didn’t have a doula for any of the births and didn’t feel like I missed out. Any specific questions?

OP, similar experience with NVPW. They were fine, and i didn’t have concerns about my care, but I was left wanting. Appointments were quick, impersonal, and a little check-the-box. None of the docs ever remembered me or anything personal to me. They would answer questions if I had them, but did not go out of their way to ask if I had questions. Some of the OBs and nurses are a little warmer/better than others. While I appreciated the efficiency and how intertwined they are with VHC, I always left feeling a little rushed and weirdly out of the loop. It wasn’t such a problem that I wanted to switch practices during the pregnancy, but I am planning to have a second and wonder If I should switch for that one. I also am not sure if I’m asking/expecting too much… I don’t expect coddling, but would have appreciated a tad more warmth, time and personalization.

Second all this. I delivered with them last year and really liked all the new providerels as well as the ones who have been at the practice a while.

ommendation for other obgyn practices other than Northern Virginia Physicians to Women that deliver at VHC? Preferably ones with offices on-site?

Some background: previously delivered with NVPM and thought care was pretty good. Perucci delivered my last and has since left. I’ve had a miscarriage since then and have been left a little wanting with the practice. Providers don’t seem to remember my history during appointments (previous csection vs vaginal birth, remember miscarriage, etc.) which is maybe a lot to ask since they have so many patients, but I do feel like things are always a little rushed there. Am I asking too much? Or should I look around? I’m about 6 weeks pregnant and waiting on my dating scan at NVPM. Thank you!
