Agree. My mother kept mine but I never had kids. One of my Goddaughters did choose to wear it at her communion and it was very special. She has chosen to keep it for possible use in a christening gown or communion gown. Your daughter may one day want to do the same thing - why take that choice away from her?

OP, really ... Think about all the other things in your house that can be donated or tossed, if space is an issue. The dress doesn't take up much room and can easily be tucked away.

Sell it on eBay.

You could have a pillow made out of it. I did this with a personalized Pottery Barn soft chair that my DD received as a gift. She outgrew it quickly and so I had my dry cleaner seamstress cut the embroidered area out and see into a pillow.

Yes please donate now while the style is in fashion and someone else can use. My mom saved mine and I just had to throw it out. It was totally 80's so my kids will never wear it and well we aren't Catholic...so there's that.

A one time event is a one time event, that she's not doing growing makes no difference. Like a wedding dress, it's not meant to be worn again and again so you don't need to buy it based on how much weight you might gain in the future. It will never be worn again either way.

Sell it as a 1st Communion or for a flower girl dress.

If you absolutely don't want to donate it, have it made into a Christening gown in the event your daughter has children.

The obvious is to pass it on. Ask your church if there would be someone in an upcoming class who could benefit from it rather than sticking it in the donate bin. I donated my sons' band tuxes back to the school for them to give to kids who couldn't afford a new suit.

Your daughter's daughter in 30+ years will want to choose her own. Or she could have sons...

We have an only, who received her first communion in May. Her dress is beautiful and was pricey. Any suggestions on what to do with it?

I don't know if she is going to have kids someday, and if so, if they would be Catholic.

Any suggestions on what to do with it? Anything crafty? Keepsake? Anything besides the obvious donate.
