that sounds like way too much for a first grader to me.

you sound like a SAHM to me. carry on with your life, and let those of us who need child care during the day handle this.

it's fine OP. bar-t ranch is great -- shady areas, an arts barn, swimming pool, etc are all places where kids can get a break from the heat. they also have multiple water stations throughout the camp area. and the counselors are well trained to be attentive to making sure kids don't get overheated.

for the last weeks, ask your kid what he wants to do! if he picks the activity he'll be more excited about it. you might also find out if there's a friend or two going to a particular camp, as that makes a big difference too.

My kid did all outdoor camps from K-2. We started adding in some STEM camps that were indoor in 3rd grade.

He will be fine. The programs have water breaks, shade areas, and plans for the heat. And he will be exhausted when he gets home so he will sleep great.

Buy sunscreen sticks and teach him how to apply it himself. Get a fun hat.

We planned wall-to-wall outdoor activity camps for our sporty 6yo DS last summer, only to be surprised when he complained of not getting more time at home. We're building in some "down weeks" this summer when he can chill at home or just take an AM half-day camp.

Many kids are ok being outside for many hours. If the fun can be found outside, they prefer that. It's really adults that puts a limit on kids being outside.
I do select indoor camps in August because it gets very humid and muggy this month. And being indoor for a few hours is a relief for many kids. They become dehydrated too. Camps still take their break outside for an hour or so.

I would do the stem,Lego or more low key indoor camp instead of soccer.

Some one should create an app to help us Mom's sign up for camp -- too many different logins/uploading of documents/coordinating buddies. It my first time, and I already fed up.

Know thy child. Some kids love variety, and others need consistency during the summer.

My kids loved camps that were outdoors all day at that age. They didn't love camp where you did one thing all day. A full day of soccer camp isn't developmentally appropriate or healthy for a 6 year old's body. I would reconsider that.

For rising first grader boy, 5 weeks of bar-t ranch, 2 weeks of whitman camp, and 2 weeks of soccer camp, and the last week is dmv trip family vacation before school starts. He has never spent a single day under the sun for a single day, but I believe there should be some shade & water break & calm down activities under a tree.

All camps above are mainly outdoors. Well, I am debating if I should do 2 last weeks of indoor camp instead of soccer camp, choices are stem or coding or lego or more low key ones.

First time planning summer camp mom here, please suggest!
