Why do we allow public land (the street) to be used to store private property (cars) practically for free? If you buy a car it should be on YOU to find and pay for a private place to store it. Either that or parking permits should cost $1000s to better reflect the actual costs they impose on society.
This is how they do it in Japan. You can’t park on a public street overnight.
I'm sure the historic commission would love people adding garages to historic row houses

Using the street as long term parking for vehicles you hoped to one day spruce up. Using the street for more cars than there are drivers in your family, and leaving your cars parked forever -- poorly parked at that. Leaving like 6 feet between cars.
We're calling parking services. We're letting them know that our streets will generate great revenue for the city. Even more so, for your expired stickers and failed inspections. But definitely for vastly surpassing the 72 hour rule.
We do our job and don't hog up street parking. Now you do yours - move your damn cars. Or get rid of them.
Get ready for tickets. And more tickets. Because we will call and 311 and call and 311 again. And again.
My car is tagged, registered and insured, and parked right in front of my house. If I don’t drive it for weeks at a time - and I don’t - that’s my business.
Get bent, loser. MYOFB.
Actually, it is prohibited by the city to park more than 72 hours without moving your car. Exact rule is: "Per Alexandria City Code, no vehicle may park in a given space on a public street for a period of more than 72 consecutive hours, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays."

Except you can apply for a 14 day allowance a few times per year if the car is parked within a certain distance of your house
Yes, you are correct. My point was the PP who wrote "if I don't drive it for weeks at a time - and I don't - that's my business" is wrong. It is the city's business, and even if they got an exemption it is only for 2 weeks and up to 5 times a year. That still leaves 42 weeks of the year where you can't park it more than 72 hours (excluding weekends/holidays).
