OP, very few climbers are free soloists.

14 is not too late to start, by any means.

My DS was 14 the first time he was introduced to it at a high adventure scout camp. Climbed everything they had. Later took a climbing instructor course and it’s become a great highlight to the person he is today in college.

Climbing depends most on leg strength, not arm strength. As a soccer player with strong legs and good balance he should be a natural at it.

My son, age 14, has expressed interest in giving up travel soccer and taking up indoor rock climbing instead. I know nothing about indoor rock climbing. Is 14 too late to start?
