Pitt Engineering is a solid program. JMU’s program is brand new and only general engineering. This isn’t even close.

JMU has an unusual program with just one general engineering degree. I'd investigate further to see how well it would suit the student's goals. Pitt is a more straightforward, traditional engineering program.

If she didn’t get into va tech then can she handle an engineering major? Many many kids who have excellent stats quit (fail out of) engineering in their first year. I would not go to JMU for engineering. If she really thinks she can hack it, then Pitt.

I work in engineering and we have zero engineers here from JMU. Didn't know they had engineering, so it must be fairly new.

I know some here from Pitt, btw.

NP here. In the OP, the person only said "rejected at Va Tech." It didn't say they lived in VA. And it didn't say they had any merit money at Pitt.

I'm a MD person. DC applied to JMU, but decided not to apply to Va Tech. DC had no interest in any MD school. You've made a big assumption on where the OP lives.


They used the word “if” so it doesn’t appear they assumed anything.

My daughter is considering both of these schools for the Fall and I would love input. Unfortunately she was not accepted to her 1st choice VA Tech.
