Applications nearly doubled from our high school this year. To be clear, this is UMass Amherst, not Amherst.

They see trends. I see it among peers and colleagues' kids. It makes sense, somebody raves about it-- a sibling, friend, etc. they visit...it creates a buzz.

Our HS saw an unusually large group going to U Mich Ann Arbor. More than ever in the past. And, the kids in our neighborhood all have Michigan sweatshirts.

Its a great school, but statistically crazy how many in my immediate area half-way across the country are going there.

Every few years there seems to be an out-of-state school that has all of the buzz and soon you know a ton of kids in your neighborhood/school that are going there. It's like all the kids talk and they all want to go there.

What is it this year?
