I always felt they were really transparent about financials. That department is separate though. We didn't end up needing much, but we constantly got emails about meeting with financial counselors.

I am relatively new to this. I am a single 35 year old and hoping to do IUI. I had a consult with Dr. Roth at SGF which was good. I am doing the pre-screening tasks and I am concerned with my experience with their financial counseling. I asked about coverage for my pre-screening tests, with my insurance's response and they dodged my question.

I am worried if this is a red flag?

If not SGF, another option?

I had Dr. Sagoskin when I was at SGF. He’s very straightforward, which I appreciated, but I could see that rubbing some people the wrong way. I came to him at age 44 wanting to do IVF, and he told me that I could try using my own eggs, but they were very unlikely to work. I actually had done a lot of research and already come to that conclusion, but I appreciated his honesty. He didn’t say he wouldn’t do IVF with my eggs, just that it probably wouldn’t work - I felt like his honesty was actually kinder because he was managing expectations. Went straight to using donor eggs and got pregnant on the first transfer! Expecting a girl, due next month.

Wanted to chime in as Dr Sagoskin is my RE and while I know he has mixed reviews, I actually really like him. He helped me conceive my daughter through IUI in 2018 (though was pretty hands off), now I've been cycling through IVF with him and he's been great. He has listened when I discussed different protocols (and chose to go with my protocol suggestion after one failed round), explains the reasoning behind why SGF won't do experimental drugs or treatment the same way other clinics do (e.g. HGH/omnitrope). He's also one of SGF's founders and is consistently ranked one of DC region's top RE's in Washingtonian so that says something. Also as a DOR patient I've appreciated that he doesn't make me go on BC pill during my cycles which SGF is known for, and there's worry that BC pills oversuppuresses for DOR patients.

That said, I will say that Dr Sagoskin isn't the type of RE who hand holds. He's offered me plenty of sympathy and always starts off the convo with "I'm so sorry" if we've had a failure, which I appreciate. I also acknowledge I'm not the type who needs hand holding or comfort, I tend to be very type-A who is focused on the result lol. He always manages expectations and is very honest and transparent - we always felt comfortable taking his honest guidance on whether he thinks we still hvae a chance, or whether it's time to hang our hats up. But, as a whole Shady Grove tends to be more of a cookie-cutter conventional clinic. Dr Sagoskin will certainly work with you on hard cases, but you need to remmeber with him that his primary goal is to get you pregnant as quickly as possible but he also will only go so far. If you're a DOR patient, I'd recommend exploring RE's who specialize in DOR but if you're any other diagnosis, I highly recommend Sagoskin.

My friend had Dr. Sagoskin. She really liked him and recommended him to me a year ago (but I ended up with Dr. Levy). She made the decision early on that she did not want to do IVF so she ended up doing 6 cycles of IUI. She said she appreciated Dr. Sagoskin allowing her to do so many cycles but he never told her that after 3, the likelihood of pregnancy low.

The reviews are mixed so far that I'm finding, and say mostly that he doesn't explain things well or listen very well to questions, or answer those questions well, which makes me very nervous (since I tend to ask a lot of questions and seek detailed answers... especially with the infertility journey).
