First, though some kids are not interested, for a lot of kids the co-op model is really attractive. It was not on my radar before we went on a Boston trip with our DD and we decided to tour...it is quite impressive. It's also right in the middle of Boston but has a real campus (unlike some other urban schools like BU or GW or NYU).

Agree entirely. Some high schools promote limits, but the parents need to back off, because it is hurting the kids.

People are just discovering it. There are other schools that are great, too. But people are narrow minded and tend to be hive like. Dc in particular, tends to be "follower-heavy."

Most of the students I know are applying to no more than eight colleges. If students are applying to more than that, they really are not focusing enough, even in the current application environment.
But yes, NU is pickier than most applicants think it is.

Look at it from Michigan and Wisconsin's standpoint, which is different than Pitt or Northeastern.
Both are state schools that are obligated to serve the residents of their respective states. So they admit who they want from in-state and then Out of state scramble for what is left. In state has something like a 35-40% admissions rate, but OOS has something more like a 10-15% rate.

Kids have been reportedly ‘shotgunning’ 30 applications or more because the common app and the other platform are so easy to do so, along with test optional not requiring the sending of tests anymore.
