"They say" typically new england applicants hear between 4 and 6, the rest of the east between 6-8, then the west.

At Northeastern the EA and ED2 deadlines for applications are the same so a deferred EA applicant can't apply ED2. But there are some schools that might do that.

Higher chance to get accepted if apply as ED2 I believe.

The advantage to ED2 is that--since it is binding--the school knows you're committed so it's the ultimate way to demonstrate interest... In theory, it should give some admissions "bump" ...unclear whether there is any advantage to EA other than finding out early.
